Ornithoctonus sp Ranong Blue is an undescribed Old World tarantula species originating from the Ranong region of Thailand. This species is especially sought after for its striking metallic blue coloration displayed along the legs, often contrasted with darker brown to charcoal body tones. As a member of the Ornithoctonus genus, it is a heavy burrower that spends the majority of its time underground, constructing deep and intricate tunnel systems when provided with adequate substrate.

Behavior and Temperament: Ornithoctonus sp Ranong Blue is extremely fast, defensive, and highly reactive to disturbance. Like all Old World tarantulas, it lacks urticating hairs and instead relies on speed, threat postures, and biting as its primary defense mechanisms. Due to its medically significant venom and rapid movements, handling is strongly discouraged. This species is best suited for advanced tarantula keepers familiar with Asian fossorial species.

Habitat and Environment Needs: Provide a secure terrestrial enclosure with deep, compactable substrate (minimum 15–20 cm for juveniles and significantly deeper for adults) to encourage natural burrowing behavior. A slightly moist substrate blend of coconut fiber and organic soil works well. Maintain stable temperatures and moderate to high humidity levels to replicate its tropical forest habitat. Proper ventilation and a clean water dish are essential.

Feeding: Ornithoctonus sp Ranong Blue typically exhibits a strong feeding response and readily accepts appropriately sized live feeder insects such as crickets and roaches. Feeding frequency should be adjusted according to age and growth rate. Remove uneaten prey within 24 hours to maintain enclosure hygiene.
