The Acanthoscurria chacoana, commonly known as the Bolivian Red Rump, is a large and terrestrial New World tarantula hailing from the subtropical regions of Paraguay and Argentina. Its defining features include a dark brown carapace with golden stripes and a velvety abdomen. This species is known for its docile nature and impressive size, often reaching leg spans of 16–18 cm. Ideal for hobbyists of all levels, it thrives in captivity with straightforward care requirements.

Behavior and Temperament : The Bolivian Red Rump is typically calm and non-aggressive. While it may use urticating hairs as a defense, it rarely bites. This species is an excellent choice for display tarantulas due to its size and tendency to remain visible.

Habitat and Environment Needs : Native to subtropical regions, this species prefers an enclosure with temperatures between 22–28°C (71–82°F) and moderate humidity levels around 60–70%. Provide a spacious enclosure with 5–10 cm of substrate for burrowing, a hide, and a shallow water dish.

Feeding : The Acanthoscurria chacoana thrives on a diet of insects such as crickets, mealworms, or roaches. Juveniles should be fed small prey 2–3 times per week, while adults require feeding every 7–10 days with larger prey.

Additional Information : This species can live up to 15–20 years in captivity with proper care. They are a hardy species, making them resilient to minor husbandry errors. As a New World tarantula, they are relatively easy to handle with appropriate precautions.
