Behavior and Temperament: Phrixotrichus vulpinus is reported to be relatively calm in some cases, but many hobbyists caution that slings and juveniles of this species tend to have high mortality in captivity, possibly due to specialised habitat requirements.
Habitat and Environment Needs: Originating from arid to semi‐arid Andean or sub‐Andean regions of Chile, this species prefers moderate temperatures and good airflow; a terrestrial setup with moderately deep substrate, a hide, and a somewhat drier side along with a semi‐moist gradient is commonly recommended.
Feeding: As with most tarantulas, feed appropriate live insects (crickets, roaches, etc.). Growth may be slow and frequent feeding may not always produce expected growth rates. Some keepers have reported slings dying despite feeding and good care.
Additional Information: This species remains somewhat enigmatic in the hobby, many imported slings reportedly died for unclear reasons, possibly because of mountain/high-altitude origin requiring cooler periods or other specialised conditions. Hobbyists suggest caution, and it may therefore be best for experienced keepers.
