Haploclastus sp Kali belongs to a group of Indian tarantulas that inhabit tropical and subtropical forest regions. Like other members of the Haploclastus genus, it spends most of its life underground in silk-lined burrows. In captivity it requires deep substrate and minimal disturbance. Due to its speed and defensive nature, this species is generally recommended only for experienced keepers.
Behavior and Temperament: This species is a typical Old World tarantula. It is fast, shy, and defensive when threatened. Instead of flicking urticating hairs like New World species, it relies on speed and a defensive bite. Most specimens prefer to retreat quickly into their burrow rather than confront a disturbance.
Habitat and Environment Needs: Haploclastus sp Kali requires a terrestrial enclosure with deep substrate (at least 15–20 cm) to allow for natural burrowing behavior. Slightly moist substrate with good ventilation works best. Provide a starter burrow or cork bark to encourage the spider to establish a retreat. Temperatures between 24–28°C and moderate to high humidity are ideal.
Feeding: This species feeds readily on common feeder insects such as crickets, roaches, and other appropriately sized invertebrates. Juveniles can be fed once or twice per week while adults can be fed every 7–14 days depending on size and condition.
Additional Information: Haploclastus species are endemic to India and remain relatively uncommon in captivity due to limited export and collection restrictions. Juveniles typically grow quickly and spend most of their time hidden in their burrows, emerging primarily at night to hunt.
