Ornithoctoninae sp Phan Cay Blue originates from Vietnam and belongs to the Ornithoctoninae subfamily of Asian tarantulas. Species in this group are typically terrestrial to fossorial and spend much of their time inside silk-lined burrows. In captivity they benefit from deep substrate and secure hiding places. Due to their speed and defensive temperament, these tarantulas are best suited for experienced hobbyists.
Behavior and Temperament: This species is extremely quick and defensive when disturbed. Like most Old World tarantulas it lacks urticating hairs and relies on threat displays, speed, and a venomous bite as its main defense. When given proper hiding places it will often remain inside its burrow and only emerge to hunt.
Habitat and Environment Needs: Provide a terrestrial enclosure with deep substrate (10–15 cm or more) to allow burrowing. Slightly moist substrate with good airflow is recommended. A cork bark hide or starter burrow helps the spider establish a retreat. Ideal temperatures range between 24–28°C with moderate to high humidity.
Feeding: Ornithoctoninae sp Phan Cay Blue is a strong feeder and will readily accept crickets, roaches, and other appropriately sized insects. Juveniles may be fed once or twice per week, while adults can be fed every 7–14 days depending on size and condition.
Additional Information: This species remains relatively uncommon in the hobby and is prized for its subtle blue coloration. Like many Southeast Asian tarantulas, it tends to remain hidden for long periods inside its burrow, emerging primarily at night to hunt.
