Avicularia sp. Boa Vista is an informally named New World tarantula associated with the Boa Vista region of northern Brazil. It is sometimes identified in the hobby as Avicularia avicularia Morphotype 1, although the locality name is commonly retained.
Behavior and Temperament: Generally considered relatively docile, but it can move quickly and may jump when startled. Avoid handling and provide a secure enclosure.
Habitat and Environment Needs: Provide a tall, well-ventilated arboreal enclosure with cork bark, climbing surfaces and space for a silken retreat. Maintain access to fresh water and moderate substrate moisture while avoiding stagnant, overly damp conditions.
Feeding: Feed appropriately sized live insects such as crickets and roaches. Adjust prey size and feeding frequency according to the tarantula’s age and body condition. Remove uneaten prey, especially before moulting.
Additional Information: This uncommon hobby form displays blue-green body colours, reddish abdominal hairs and pink toe tips. Its exact taxonomic status remains uncertain, so retain the locality name when recording captive-bred specimens.
