Coremiocnemis hoggi is an Old World tarantula species native to Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia and surrounding regions. This species is generally terrestrial to fossorial and prefers to construct burrows or use pre-existing hides in the substrate. Although its coloration is relatively modest, ranging from brown to dark earthy tones, it remains an interesting species to observe due to its natural behaviors and quick movements. Like most Old World tarantulas, it lacks urticating hairs and relies on speed and defensive posturing when threatened.
Behavior and Temperament: Coremiocnemis hoggi can be defensive and very fast when disturbed. It tends to spend much of its time in its burrow and may only emerge at night or when hunting. Due to its speed and Old World defensive tendencies, it is not recommended for handling.
Habitat and Environment Needs: This species prefers a terrestrial enclosure with deep substrate to allow for burrowing. A mix of soil, peat, or coco fiber works well to maintain structure and humidity. Provide a hide and ensure the enclosure has adequate ventilation while maintaining moderate humidity levels.
Feeding: Coremiocnemis hoggi feeds readily on appropriately sized insects such as crickets, roaches, and other feeder insects. It typically has a strong feeding response and will quickly grab prey that enters its territory.
Additional Information: Due to its speed and defensive nature typical of Old World tarantulas, this species is best suited for intermediate to advanced keepers who are familiar with Asian tarantula care and enclosure maintenance.
