Phormingochilus everetti is an arboreal tarantula species native to the rainforests of Borneo in Southeast Asia. This species lives in tree hollows and natural cavities where it builds extensive webbing. It has a dark body coloration with subtle contrasting tones and long slender legs typical of arboreal Asian tarantulas. As with most Old World species, it is quick to retreat and can display defensive behavior when threatened, making it a species best suited for experienced keepers.
Behavior and Temperament: Phormingochilus everetti is very fast and generally defensive when disturbed. It prefers to retreat into its webbed hide rather than confront threats, but it may display defensive postures if cornered. Handling is not recommended due to its speed and potent venom typical of Old World tarantulas.
Habitat and Environment Needs: This species requires a vertically oriented enclosure with cork bark or similar structures to create climbing surfaces and retreats. It thrives in warm, humid conditions similar to tropical rainforest environments. A slightly moist substrate and good ventilation are important for maintaining proper enclosure conditions.
Feeding: Phormingochilus everetti feeds readily on live insects such as crickets, roaches, and other appropriately sized feeder insects. It often shows a strong feeding response and may strike prey quickly when it approaches its webbed retreat.
Additional Information: This species produces noticeable webbing in arboreal retreats and may stay hidden for extended periods. Due to its speed and defensive nature typical of Asian tarantulas, it is recommended for experienced or advanced keepers.
