Cyriopagopus sp Valhalla is an uncommon tarantula species in the hobby believed to originate from Southeast Asia, most often reported from Thailand and surrounding regions. This species belongs to the Cyriopagopus genus, which includes several well-known Asian tarantulas previously classified under Haplopelma. Like others in the genus, it is known for its speed, defensive behavior, and preference for humid environments. Its striking green carapace combined with contrasting darker legs and subtle striping make it a visually impressive species for advanced collections.
Behavior and Temperament: Cyriopagopus sp Valhalla is extremely fast and defensive when disturbed. As an Old World species it lacks urticating hairs and instead relies on threat displays, speed, and a venomous bite as its primary defense. It is highly alert and generally not suitable for handling, making it best suited for experienced tarantula keepers.
Habitat and Environment Needs: This species benefits from a vertically oriented enclosure with cork bark or climbing structures to create retreats. Moderate to high humidity and warm temperatures should be maintained to replicate its tropical habitat. Adequate ventilation is important while keeping the substrate slightly moist and providing a water dish.
Feeding: Cyriopagopus sp. “Valhalla” has a strong feeding response and will readily accept live prey such as crickets, roaches, and other appropriately sized feeder insects. Juveniles can be fed more frequently while adults typically feed every 7–10 days.
Additional Information: Due to its speed, defensive nature, and potent venom typical of Old World tarantulas, this species is recommended only for advanced keepers. It can be quite reclusive and may spend much of its time inside retreats or webbed areas of the enclosure.
