Cyriocosmus aueri is a dwarf New World tarantula species native to Peru. Like other members of the genus, it remains very small even as an adult, making it popular among hobbyists who enjoy compact enclosures and observing intricate behaviors. Despite its size, it can be quite active and fascinating to watch.
Behavior and Temperament: Generally shy and reclusive. It prefers to hide and will quickly retreat to its burrow when disturbed. It is not considered defensive but may flick urticating hairs if threatened.
Habitat and Environment Needs: This is a terrestrial species that benefits from a well-ventilated enclosure with slightly moist substrate. Provide plenty of substrate depth for burrowing along with a small hide. Moderate humidity should be maintained without making the enclosure overly wet.
Feeding: Feeds on appropriately sized insects such as pinhead crickets, small roaches, and other tiny prey due to its small size.
Additional Information: Due to its small size and delicate nature, extra care should be taken during maintenance. It is better suited for observation rather than handling.
