Behavior and Temperament: Plesiopelma longisternale is generally described as a burrowing under rock species rather than an active arboreal one. In its natural habitat it builds silk lined retreats under stones in open pastures and foothills. While not considered dangerously aggressive, it may show defensive posture
Habitat and Environment Needs: Found in Argentina province Santiago del Estero and other regions and Uruguay in grassland, pampa, monte and dry woodland rocky pasture biomes. The natural microhabitat tends to be under rocks or in burrows where moisture may be locally buffered by silk lining. Therefore, in captivity a terrestrial setup with moderate substrate depth, a hide or rock cover, lower to moderate humidity and stable temperature is advisable.
Feeding: Standard tarantula diet: live insects like crickets and roaches. Given its smaller size and burrowing habits, feeding modest prey and allowing time for adaptation is wise.
Additional Information: Because this species is less common in the hobby compared with many New World genera, data on captive growth rates, maximum size, and temperament is limited. Authentic origin and captive-bred status should be verified. Recent taxonomic work highlights morphological variation in the species and describes that what was thought to be one widespread species may harbour cryptic lineages.
