Theraphosa apophysis, commonly referred to as the Pinkfoot Goliath, is one of the largest tarantula species known, often rivaling *Theraphosa blondi* in leg span and bulk. It stands out with its distinctive pink or salmon-colored foot pads, giving it an otherworldly appearance. Native to the rainforests of Venezuela, this fast-growing terrestrial tarantula demands specific care conditions including high humidity and deep substrate. Due to its defensiveness, speed, and environmental sensitivity, it is recommended for experienced keepers.
Behavior and Temperament: Nervous and defensive. Will readily kick urticating hairs and retreat quickly when disturbed. Can produce a hissing sound as a warning.
Habitat and Environment Needs: Large enclosure with deep, moist substrate. Requires high humidity with low to moderate ventilation. Avoid sharp decorations and ensure a secure hide. Moisture must be carefully managed to avoid mold.
Feeding: Will eat large insects such as roaches and crickets. Adults can occasionally take pinkie mice (not frequently). Juveniles eat 2–3 times weekly; adults weekly.
Additional Information: Known for being delicate in captivity due to humidity needs. Not suitable for beginners. A showstopper in any collection with proper care.
